Reading List Book Club - Working in Public

Following up on the book suggestions, I’d be interested in having an online book-club about books on the reading list for anybody who has read them (or is interested learning about them). I was thinking on a Zoom call on a Friday morning or around brunch time with the first one possibly April 30th.

My first book suggestion would be Working in Public: The Making and Maintenance of Open Source Software

Great! How about 11am PDT on the 30th? I can set up a Zoom and an event.

Deal. I’ll bring Weissbier and Pretzels even though I unfortunately can’t share them at the moment.

OK, I set up an event on Luma: Book Club: Working in Public, Nadia Eghbal - Zoom

I invited you to it as a host.

For anyone interested, @flancian has created a public notes document in his knowledge graph tool.

Great! The linked talk in there has a great summary of the book:

I’ve gotten a copy and started reading this afternoon.

Is there a particular portion we’ll be covering through or are we all hoping to have finished reading the entirety of the text by Friday?

I wouldn’t worry too much. I know it’s short notice for a lot of people and I know several people who a) won’t be finished and b) this is their first book club.

Depending on interest — we can do a follow up on the “second half” or any other topics that come up.

How does that sound @daffl ?

Thanks everyone.

I’ve set up #projects:wipclub as the dedicated forum for this, and we can make another post with suggested next events and books.

@daffl if you can post about a next suggested book and then we’ll figure out about voting on a poll or similar.

I’ll figure out a date for a licensing talk.

Zoom chat log below, I have some other notes.
