Systems, Programming, Languages, and Applications: Software for Humanity 2022 - Auckland, New Zealand, Dec 5th - 10th, 2022

The ACM SIGPLAN conference on Systems, Programming, Languages, and Applications: Software for Humanity embraces all aspects of software construction and delivery, to make it the premier conference on the applications of programming languages - at the intersection of programming languages and software engineering.

SPLASH 2022 aims to signify the reopening of the world and going to being able to meet your international colleagues in person. We are looking forward to seeing you in Australasia for the first time since the OOPSLA conference started back in 1986. We are co-locating with APLAS, as well as GPCE, SLE, DLS, SAS, Onward! Papers, Onward! Essays, Scala, Rebase, SPLASH-E and all the co-located Workshops and Events that make SPLASH the “go-to” conference of the year.

NB! Please download our SPLASH 2022 PDF Poster to print out and put up around your department. Thank you!

Also PAINT aka Programming Abstractions and Interactive Notations, Tools, and Environments is happening at SPLASH.

Also LIVE, “Where UX meets PL”

Programming is cognitively demanding, and too difficult. LIVE is a workshop exploring new user interfaces that improve the immediacy, usability, and learnability of programming. Whereas PL research traditionally focuses on programs, LIVE focuses more on the activity of programming.

Various CFPs open until mid to late August.

I don’t think we’ll necessarily be going to this, but is an example of a very interesting conference with some themes we like.

Starting to plan a 2023 “future of computing” conf, stay tuned

I’m planning to watch the livestream (assuming it will be livestreamed like last year) of the SLASH LIVE 1-day event that coincides with SPLASH. Here’s the schedule.

PVH is giving a keynote, Yoshiki is presenting Croquet (which I worked on for a bit), Geoff Litt is showing off Potluck, Jose Valim is showing off Livebook,
